Can I Use GameCube Controllers to play Nintendo Wii Games?

When I went to Walt Mart to buy additional controllers for the Wii, I saw that they were VERY expensive. Then I saw that the Wii had the Gamecube Controllers ports, and I am planning to buy NBA games for Wii. So my question is; Can I use Gamecube controllers to play the Nintendo Wii?
Yes, but not with all games. The Gamecube controller is only compatible with a few Wii games; it’s mostly for Virtual Console games, and some WiiWare games.
To see if a game is compatible with the Gamecube controller, look in the top-right corner of the back of the game’s case. There will be pictures of controllers in blue showing what controllers are compatible with the game. If you don’t see the GC controller, well, you’re out of luck.
Unfortunately, none of the NBA games are compatible with the GC controller.
Here are some Wii games compatible with the Gamecube controller:
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Mario Kart Wii
Dragon Ball Z: Tenkaichi 2 and 3
Fire Emblem: Goddess of Dawn
Mortal Kombat Armageddon
Mercury Meltdown Revolution
Guilty Gear XX Accent Core
Naruto: Clash of Ninja MVZ
Resident Evil 4: Wii edition
Muramasa
TMNT:Smashup

I sure you could, after Wii can play Gamecube games (I have some old ones and it’s not likely they’ll have Wii versions.
Some Wii games are compatible with the Gamecube controller. See the back of game box covers.
Some Wiiware game are compatible with the Gamecube controller. See "Compatibility options" on the purchase screen when you select a game to download off the Wii Shop Channel
All Virtual Console titles are compatible with the Gamecube controller. See "Compatibility options" on the purchase screen when you select a game to download off the Wii Shop Channel.
Also, none of the NBA games (NBA Live 08 or NBA Live 09 All-Play) are compatible with the Wii. There is no NBA Live 10 given the bad reception, poor sales and controls of the Wii versions.

Yes you can, you plug them in at the top of the wii. Some games may not allow you to but most games will.
