How do i get my wii to play gamecube games?

I just bought a nintendo wii and I have 2 gamecube games im trying to play but i cant, Im beginning to think something is wrong with my wii… It plays fine with wii sports and i bought the slim controller to play the gamecube games but when the gamecube game asks me to press start nothing happens, so i try to press start with the wii wand controller and still nothing. I bought a gamecube controller and pluged it in to port one and still nothing when i press start, what am I doing wrong please help me im getting fustrated,
we own a wii and play our GC games on there without any problems. did you use the GC controller? my son says it only works that way. hope this helps.
Try plugging it into the other port. It should be plugged in to the one closest to the front.
I had the same problem when I first tried to play GC games on my wii. After pulling out the manual and looking for a troubleshooting guide I realized that my dumb a** put in the disk upside down (the wii system was on its side and I was thrown off as to what direction was actually the systems top and bottom) so the disk wasn’t registering.
dude u have to use a GAMECUBE controller. the classic controller tht ur talking about is for virtual console. just plug in the controller in the top and go to disc channel and clik start. make sure if ur put the system up verticallly the front side word side is facing away from the power button
