Should the FTC investigate Sony regarding their faulty Playstation brand of video game consoles ?

Plenty of Playstation owners have bought multiple Playstation consoles going back to the launch of the PS1, PS2 and now the PS3 due to failure and the trend seems to be continuing with the PS3 !
I don’t know what should be done but one thing is certain, the Playstation line of gaming consoles made by Sony have and continue to have design flaws and/or hardware errors.
At launch, I bought a PS1 which always overheated and continually froze ! I subsequently went through 6 PS1 systems with the last 3 being bought as my warranty expired on my original PS1 purchase after exchanges.
Then I bought a "fatty original" PS2 console and it was going really good until for some odd reason I started getting the dreaded "DRE" (Disc Read Error) message and then it stopped playing dvd movies and eventually games. The warranty had expired by this time (of course) and being that I had such huge library of PS2 games I had to go buy yet another PS2 console.
Well this one to failed on me 2 months in and I exchanged it for another one which also failed. To date, I’ve had 3 fatty PS2 consoles and 2 slim consoles. Thats a total of 5 faulty PS2 consoles and 6 PS1 consoles and they are all stored in my garage to this very day !
The last slim PS2 I bought still works (knocks on wood) !
So yes I would agree that the Playstation lien of gaming consoles have a design flaw or hardware failure issues and Sony has never admitted that they do.
I haven’t heard about large numbers of people having problems with their PlayStation 3′s, maybe less than 3% which isn’t a recall by any means or a reason for the FTC to be involved. The PlayStation 2 early models did have some problems but the new slim models don’t and honestly many original model owners don’t have problems, I have an original "fat’ boy model still going strong without anything wrong. The PlayStation original model doesn’t even count anymore, it’s out of production and most units are at least a few years old or more so it’s out of Sony’s hands what happens to them, if you treat them well they should continue to work for a long time, again I have one going on 7-8 years of age and it still works great.
Failure? Where to start. Let me first say this. The ps1 was the forefront the cutting edge of technology in those days. If you had one you were playing with the best and the greatest. Even more the ps2 was the exact same. Every Console whether by sony, microsoft, and PC based had issues in the start of their release.
Of all consoles to pick you Say Sony’s? The ps3 has less then 1% failure rate. Yes the ps1 had its flaws. I had 1 that lasted until I bought a ps2. I had that ps2 until I bought my ps3. I have had my ps3 for over a year and not an issue yet(knock on wood.)
I know I must sound like a fanboy of from my past console picks you might think so. But I’ve owned every console from orignal Nintendo to original gameboy clear up to the ps3 and 360. All of them have their quirks and in some rare cases like the 6 ps1′s above there are design flaws but to say sony should be investigated? Cmon!
Microsoft has a 33% failure rate. I owned a xbox and any time dust got in I had to blow it out with an industrial blow dryer used for drying animals just to get it to read discs.
I went through 4 360′s and finally sold mine cause I didn’t spend that much money to deal with that much trouble.
I think your jumping the gun on this. I’ve been through my share of electronics from consoles to pc’s to laptops, and cell phones. Technology isn’t perfect and to expect a brand new product to perfom perfectly especially when its a ps1.
Did you know a ps1 to this day has the best cd player on the market. The ps2 has the best dvd player on the market and the ps3 is looking like the best blu-ray player?
Because of sony you have microsofts consoles. They created the competition for microsoft to put out a console. They created a demand! For bigger and better consoles.
I could go on but ill spare the readers. All I’m saying is technology has its problems doesn’t mean it isn’t needed to better it so no one should be investigated for anything. Just game on until something new and better comes out.

All electronics have their issues, let alone game consoles.
The PS3 has the lowest failure rate out there. Mine has not giving me any problems, nor has the 97% of the other owners experienced any problems.
The FTC has better things to worry about.
Quit criticizing the PS3 because of your bad experiences. Its the best Playstation console made to date.
I think the original poster is a troll trying to start trouble. All electronics have a 1% to 2% failure rate because they are made by humans who are themselves imperfect.
However the Xbox 360′s failure rate has ran as high as 33% so if any game console need to be investigated it’s Microsoft’s. Why do you think they extended the warranty to 3 years? It wasn’t because they were being nice.
